Yurii Veres to Perform in Vienna at an Event Celebrating Ukrainian Independence
On August 23, 2026, a major cultural and artistic event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and Ukrainian State Flag Day will take place in Vienna at Maria-Theresien-Platz.
Yurii Veres, leader of the band “Kamyanyi Hist,” will take part in the event. He will perform songs by “Kamyanyi Hist” on the event’s main stage.
In addition to his musical performance, Yurii Veres will present his documentary photobook Light Through the Ruins, based on photographs taken in Ukraine between 2022 and 2025. The book contains 305 photographs documenting the consequences of the full-scale war through destroyed cities and villages, people, and details of everyday life.
Throughout the day, Maria-Theresien-Platz will bring together music, literature, art, Ukrainian traditions, and contemporary Ukrainian culture. The program will include performances by Ukrainian and Austrian musicians, vocal and choral groups, dancers, theatrical and artistic events, book presentations, workshops, and a Ukrainian cultural fair.
The main stage will feature the Ukrainian music project LELEKA, Austrian singer Cesár Sampson, opera singer Zoryana Kushpler, Honored Artist of Ukraine and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Lenara Osmanova, young vocalist Artem Fesko, as well as other performers.
The event will be held with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Austria. The organizer is the NGO UMIZ Europa.
