Yurii Veres to Present Light Through the Ruins with an Acoustic Performance by Kamianyi Hist
On August 1, Garnison Military Pub in Kyiv will host the presentation of Light Through the Ruins, a documentary photobook by Yurii Veres, leader of the rock band Kamianyi Hist. The book was published by Bilka Publishing.
Yurii Veres spent more than three years working on the project, documenting life in Ukraine during the full-scale war. The book features more than 300 photographs taken between 2022 and 2025 in regions affected by the fighting.
The publication also includes reproductions of woven artworks created by three generations of women in the author's family: his great-grandmother Mariia, grandmother Hanna, and aunt Valentyna. Some of their original works were lost in the Russian missile strike that destroyed the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum in 2022.
During the presentation, Yurii Veres will share the stories behind the photographs, speak about the people, places, and events they depict, and tell the story of how the book came to life.
A special part of the evening will be an acoustic performance by Kamianyi Hist. In an intimate setting, the band will perform songs that echo the themes of the book and continue its story through music.
After the event, guests will have an opportunity to meet the author, purchase a copy of Light Through the Ruins, and have it signed.
The event is charitable. Donations will be collected throughout the evening to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will also be donated to support Ukraine's defenders.
